Real Madrid midfielder Isco refused to answer a question from a journalist in a tetchy Spain news conference, telling the reporter to “write whatever you like”.

The Los Blancos playmaker appeared in front of the media on Thursday ahead of Luis Enrique’s first game in charge, against England in the Nations League.
The former Barcelona manager was installed as Spain’s new coach this summer, having been out of work since leaving the Camp Nou in 2017.
It is the dawn of new era for the squad, but a question from an El Pais journalist in a team press conference today, who asked about Spain’s tactics against teams that defend deep, was met with a sharp response from Isco.
“I won’t answer that question as you’ll write whatever you like in your section in the newspaper, so I’ll just you let you carry on in that manner,” Isco said.
“We’re the ones playing on the pitch for the national team but we need people around us who are helpful instead of putting obstacles in the way constantly as that offers nothing.”
Isco was reportedly unhappy with criticism of his World Cup performances by the journalist in question in the wake of Spain’s round of 16 exit in Russia.
Despite a promising performance in the thrilling 3-3 draw against Portugal in their opening group game, Spain ended up scraping their way through before being ousted by the tournament hosts in the next round after a dramatic penalty shootout.
England should represent a stern test for La Rojas and a baptism of fire for Enrique, given the fact that Gareth Southgate’s men managed to reach the semifinals of the World Cup.
However, if Isco can reproduce the same kind of form he has shown in the early stages of the new La Liga season, Spain could once again return to their scintillating best in Saturday’s friendly.
